INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Students are given an introduction to the theoretical background to international relations and examine a range of contemporary and historical topics through which it is possible to explore the behaviour of states and international organisations. Major themes are addressed, including national interest, realism, ideologies, the growth of superpowers, war and co-operation. The course also contrasts the international behaviour of small and large, more powerful states. Students are encouraged to relate what they learn to contemporary issues, using up-to-date materials from international newspapers and journals.
