THE ANCIENT GREEKS

VaseThis course gives students a broad but firm grounding in the governing systems and structures of Ancient Greece, a society which has both inspired and constitutes the foundations of much of what we call Western Civilisation. Issues such as democracy, justice, the development of political philosophy, empire building, religion and the role of women will be examined, amongst others. The period studied will cover the rise of ancient Athens from a small isolated community into a cosmopolitan imperial power, and its subsequent fall.
