WORKSHOPS
Afternoon optional activities include a selection of workshops, offered in a number of areas, according to demand. Workshops normally lead to a presentation or performance at the end of the course, and often unearth some excellent talent! Students may choose one or two workshops, according to other commitments.
DRAMA
Drama workshops give students the opportunity to learn about the techniques of dramatic performance and they are able to develop and practise their acquired skills, working with others under the guidance of the tutor. No previous experience is required, though enthusiasm and creativity is very helpful! A short performance is planned and rehearsed and may be presented during the final week.
FILM PRODUCTION
Students interested in the different aspects of film making and production are given guidance with the basic methods and techniques involved, working towards the production of a short film on a chosen topic. This workshop will often be combined with the drama workshop, to provide a record of the work done by the performers.
DEBATING
Oxford has one of the finest debating traditions in the world and is where many of Britain's great political leaders learnt the art of public speaking. Those interested in taking part in debate are coached in the art of presenting arguments effectively and encouraged to test their powers of thought, analysis and oral expression, learning to think quickly and to counter their opponents' point-of-view. A weekly formal debate takes place on a topic chosen by students.
TALKS & LECTURES
Course staff and other guest speakers offer a number of short talks and lectures on topical subjects, by way of introducing and explaining the subject and setting out its salient points and the key areas for consideration. The talks provide a pithy, insightful and thought-provoking overview of the topic.
