THE OXFORD UNION
All students enrolled on our Academic Semester Courses are automatically given membership of the Oxford Union for the duration of their stay. A place steeped in history and tradition, the Union is centrally situated in St Michael's Street, just 300 yards from the college, and it is world-renowned as a student debating club, and as the training-ground for future political leaders. Many British prime ministers learnt their debating skills at the ‘Union' and some were Union Presidents in their student days. In addition to weekly student debates, there are regular guest speakers from the worlds of politics, entertainment, business and sport. Speakers from the United States have included Presidents Reagan, Nixon and Carter; Malcolm X and Robert Kennedy both spoke there shortly before their tragic deaths; more recently, Newt Gingrich, Madeleine Albright and Clint Eastwood have addressed members.
| "What most impressed me was the tutors' genuine interest in the success of their students. The time I spent in Oxford was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and a unique opportunity to meet people from all over the globe." |

However, the Oxford Union is more than simply a debating club. It is a focal point for student activity and recreation, and has excellent facilities, such as a fine lending library and reading room, a snooker room and a lively café and bar. These constitute a wonderful social centre for students in Oxford, whether from Oxford University, Oxford Brookes University or from other courses, such as The Oxford Advanced Studies Program.
